HELLO,
Okay, so after my first blog, I thought I might share some parts of this 10 year old new miracle I recently discovered.
So first off, WordPress is my publishing platform (http://wordpress.org/), look at me getting all techie! I am genuinely proud of myself. (click on the URL if you want any further information on WordPress).
My aim was to negotiate my way around the initial user interface (bellow). This, I found quite easy so I do not feel I need to bore you with basic usage information but I have added this little screen snatch as an example of my user interface and also so I can point out some cool stuff!!
Let’s address Categories and Post Tags, yes; I had no concept of them till this morning but they are more or less the same thing.
Now, there is a little button on the lower right side where my little friend George lives, we will call him curious! This button he is guarding kindly for me, it says Post Tags.
Category is a large box above Post Tags, this box contains checkboxes, check the box of the tag you would like too add to your post. It is as easy as that!
Then after you have completed categories go to the box titled post tags which is located under categories, there is little box saying: Add New Tag. Simply key into the box, the title or name of the category you want too add e.g. Gemma learning blog, you have now added your own tag.
Post: meaning your blog entry and Tag: meaning a literal tag you have connected to your blog. Why? You may ask. Well, let my talented friend tell you:
“When posting, you include tags (like Meta tags) in each post, these tags will help search engines find relevant information in your blogs. Thus for example: if you type into Google ‘Gemma’s Wand blog’ Google will have a better chance of finding those tags in my post” Thank you Martin. ;0)
Check out http://en.wordpress.com/features/post-tags/ for more information, although this URL was not a great deal of help. It crossed between patronizing and a little baffling as the examples did not match my version of WordPress. Still I have added the URL just in case you could make more sense of it than I could.
Posting a tag, in basic terms help’s a browser find your blog.
